Here are some interesting comments on Gore from the Salon.com web site...

Gore 2008 = Nixon 1968

Youngish veep with difficult relationship with his prez loses a squeaker of an election thanks to what very much may be fraud in a voter-rich state.

Eight years later, the sitting president from the other party is leaving office as a foreign war becomes more and more unpopular.

Here's hoping Gore's years in the wilderness haven't driven him insane and paranoid with rage. But if he starts claiming to have a "secret plan to win the war," we're in trouble.

Not what he was

After hearing and seeing Al Gore speak on global warming in Portland last year, my perception of him changed radically. I supported and voted for him despite his rather stiff demeanor and his Republicrat running mate. He certainly isn't what he was presented as. When divested of whoever was mis-handling his presidential campaign he actually comes across relaxed, charismatic, engaging, interesting and informative. Had the Al Gore I saw been running in 2000, no amount of election manipulation would have beaten him. In retrospect, we missed a golden opportunity for the US to be a real leader in the world and not the bully state we've become.

Bulletproof Candidate

Gore is bulletproof, they threw everything they had at him and he still managed to win. If he picks an up and coming Vice President and acts just as he has for the last 6 years he's probably a shoe in. I know a lot of independants are wondering "what if Gore had won?" and I really hope he steps up and shows them. Hillary and her move to the right is a disgustingly politcal move, if Nixon could come back and win a presidency, certainly Gore can.

Gore 2008

Despite his poor choice of Lieberman in 2000 as a running mate, and his weak campaign then:

I think Gore would make a great president in 2008.

Let's get it out of the way: there's an element of 'justice' for giving him the office he earned in 2000.

But apart from that, his speeches since then I've found the best of any politician during this period. His passion seems authentic, and he has a history of leading on the important issues - after all, desite the perverted twist in the campaign, he *was* the leaidng political figure for the internet to be developed.

He's all about public service, and his unique advocacy on global warming is a great indication that he's just the antidote we need in 2008 to the decades of republican can't-doism as their governing position, where Gore can use the government to again do things our society needs and set the direction for a return to democrats in coming years.

And there's that justice for the theft of 2000 thing too.
