Looks like we've started a medical file here!!

My problem is that I have one small kidney which I may have been born with and which has a narrowed artery and the other kidney which is enlarged as result of compensation. This situation was diagnosed nine years ago. At that time my BP went over 240. The BP problem comes from the little kidney but I don't want to remove it because it still works a bit and the big kidney may already be compromised. Since that time the drugs to control the BP have worked very well but a few weeks ago I lost control, accumulated too much water, and took the wrong drugs which made the situation worse. I do think I have regained partial control again but with a much higher dose of the original drug. An added problem is that drugs which are generally used to control high blood pressure will stop me from passing urine and so I have a very limited choice of drugs which I can take. Furthermore, all the doctors I ask for advice keep recommending the drugs which stop me producing urine because they are not experienced with those I take. So I have to look after myself on my own.

> Coincidentally, I have had the same problem myself and to this day don't know what caused it. It seems to occur late at night. I can't urinate and my blood pressure zooms up. After so much time, when I finally feel like urinating my BP comes down and I'm allright.

It's amazing that we have such a similar problem. Is your difficulty that you don't make urine or that you can't empty your bladder? The reason it happens at night is because the urine production increases when one is horizontal in bed because, in simple terms, the heart pumps more blood to the kidneys. That's why if you want to control your blood pressure it's best to sleep in a chair or else put the legs at the head of the bed on bricks. Also remember this if you get short of breath in bed which could mean you are going into heart failure.

> I just hope you continue to be well.

Thank you and the same to you.
