The thing is, the more resources people have the fewer children they have...except maybe Mormons and some Catholics.

The basic idea of survival of the fittest would say just the opposite. Industrialized countries are finding out (half of Japanese women at 30 have no children) that their lack of children is causing their countries to shrink without immigration.

Why would industrialized countries wish to use their resources to support the children of non-industrialized countries? I mean, it's nice if they would like to but it doesn't seem to make any Darwinian sense if the purpose of striving is to make sure your genes make it into the future.

Maybe Darwin falls apart when there's true decision-making and maybe the human species is simply self-destructive.
