As a 30-year (former) resident of the Velvet Rut, I (used to) resemble that remark. Somewhere in a box I even have the photos to prove it.

(Except that I hardly ever drove, always on the bike through all weather. And always ready to bail onto the sidewalk at intersections when the "older drivers" would make sudden right turns without regard for signalling or cyclists.

Why do I call it the Velvet Rut? Victoria is extremely comfy but nothing ever happens. Maybe the internet with the real time connection to the outside world has changed that.

I may move back to the most magnificent of islands someday, but more likely to reside somewhere in the boonies rather than where I grew up.

You forgot the shorts in December.

A copy of the New Republic tossed on the dashboard of your Volvo doesn't hurt either.
