Can you condense that response to one paragraph. I can't figure out what you are trying to say. My reason for posting it to you is that you have a static view of taxation; you seem to like the status quo, but less of it. What the Europeans are doing, and what we've done in the past, is to use taxation as a penalty for anti-social behavior. Then it serves two purposes, it raises funds for government and it encourages beneficial behaviour. I don't think their solution would work in this country. I think we need to tax inefficient energy consumption devices, and credit energy efficient devices. We are way too deep in trouble with 25% of the world's consumption of an increasingly precious commodity. Make it revenue neutral and leave the rest of the system alone. I would have thought you would have liked the European model... with less tax on income. Guess I was wrong. John
