OT: The Utah Attorney General and all local law enforcement ignore polygamists, unless there's abuse, rape, forced child marriage or some other crime involved. No polygamists have been pursued for polygamy. The little secret truth is that the mainline LDS church hasn't REALLY disavowed polygamy - they really can't. Their founding prophet made it a fundamental part of their religion.

I discussed this with some Mormon missionaries that came to my door. I asked them how they could believe in a church that had disowned a major part of their founder's teachings just to become a state? They told me they had been taught plural wives were still the ideal, but it just wasn't yet time to implement that part of the teachings. That, and that if you have more than one wife (serially!) on earth, you get a plurality of wives in heaven!

The LDS church really hates all this polygamist stuff, because it makes them look so weird. They really hate "Big Love"! They desperately want to be thought of as just another branch of Christianity, like Baptists or Methodists, but they really aren't. They're really more like Muslims, with newer prophets and an updated book. Which may give Mitt Romney a spot of trouble. I don't think the evangelicals will cotton to him.
