wathchout for auto and airline industry for failures. Soon, it will be followed by other industries like telecom, finance etc. I even think lot of energy companies will start having profit falls. If crude rises and demand falls for gas (price of gas could stay high), will oil companies still make money? I'm sure in early 1929, nobody saw depression or bank failures. But it happened. I agree with you that doom and gloom has been preached long. If you are tired of it, you should go ahead and speculate/invest. You can taunt me with your profit stories. At this point in time, I'm not going to be tempted. That is just my position. My idea of investment: shorting!! I know that could be a failure as well - as the counter party might fail to acknowledge the put options - but that is the path I'm going to take - knowing the chances of failure.
