'they' are working to build the cities they will be moving people into

'they' are printing credit to offset usa credit

'they' have a 300 years pent-up demand for highways and dams and airports and housing and power stations

and each new housing unit requires the absolute musts: aircon, heating, tv, stereo, gas range, electric stove, garage, car, etc

this time it is different, and so very different

my guess is that some folks, perhaps many, and enough to matter to a rebellion cause, will have to do with less than 27 barrels of crude per year, so that folks elsewhere will have more than 1 barrel per year allotment, may the crude go to the highest bidder

globalization = global equalization of cost, and so of revenue

They could as well work for their local govt moving sand from one spot to another back and forth again and again - and in the process demand copper from the world for this hard work!!!!

Holy smokes - isn't this what gold miners do? Didn't keynes say we could put a bunch of money in jars - bury it and then dig it up and then bury it and dig it up some more to keep people happy? Whats the difference?

That is the problem many are not seeing. The crony capitalism does not allow their people to really work and in a "capitalistic" way.

Man do you ever read any chinese science journals - do you know how many scientists and engineers they put out last year versus other countries? How the INFORMATION SOCIETY is the future and your memes of moving sand back and forth is the past. What are you willing to do for a chinese scientist that finds the cure for aids, cancer, invents medicine to keep you young for thousands of years etc etc? You know I met the guy that runs liftport group - he told me about some chinese scientists making extra long carbon nanotubes - that is the stuff gonna be used for the space elevator - how do you put a price on that? Do you know about the space elevator?

I'm not saying it is 100% crony capitalism or 100% credit binge - but it is a mix of credit binge and partly "so called" capitalism that is fueling this consumption and that is not a good foundation for future demand!!

Why do you come to SI and read instead of hanging sheetrock? You must value knowledge and discussion more than keeping your house building skills up eh? How do you put a price on quantum computing and the engineers and scientists and other spocks that bring it to us? The richest man in the world aint a sand mover or a house builder - don't forget that. Elroy is waiting for his 80% real estate haircut - but the future is robot dogs like Astro and software with bill G.

bb, I agree with you. We are in a false prosperity right now. The credit bubble will burst and with it, demand for just about everything will evaporate.

I expect nearly everything to fall in price as a supply glut forms.

What we don't know is how the Fed responds. Bernanke has talked about helicopter money. We'll see. I don't think the Fed has all that much flexibility to lower rates and try to gun the economy higher.

He'll probably try to thread the needle. Keep rates as low as possible without crashing the dollar and without crashing the bubbles in housing and stocks. Good luck. I don't believe such an outcome is possible.
