At some corporate headquarters, there's a minion running around with spreadsheets showing that at this point they can add capacity, and still maintain profitability.

But not before then. In the meantime, as you say, "Screw 'em!"

The metric is "good enough". The problem is "Who defines the metric?"

Not the users.
