We need to punish gas guzzling and gouging, and reward conservation and beneficial behavior. If we do that for long enough the US public will break their addiction and we will create millions of jobs at the same time creating brand new businesses. If you don't think this can be done, look at Brazil. They got off oil within about ten years after the 1970's oil embargo. They use their huge sugarcane crop to fuel almost every vehicle in the country. And it's all clean too, no toxic exhaust fumes.
