Makes me feel like an amateur, though my friends think I am a morbic and psychotic penny-pincher. Speaking of which, it only takes at most three seconds to pick up a penny off the sidewalk, and that's making $12.00 an hour tax free. You also get exercise and it's cheaper than a yoga class.

I finally gave in to Citibank's offer of a free Ipod Shuffle after I charge $300. It just means using one card instead of another, if I was getting 5% cash back elsewhere so the Ipod would cost me $15.

As for carrying balances, I don't even buy most things if I CAN pay them off right away.

I absolutely agree with you that credit cards are a great convenience if used properly. I also pay all of them with EFTs just before the due date.

One thing I do is stretch out payment as long as possible. I have three cards that close on approx the 10th, 20th and 30th of the month. I always use the card that just closed for the next ten days, trying to always get at least a 50 day FREE loan. This is especially true for large purchases like cruises or furniture.

When I was a kid, the people who charged this kind of interest were called loansharks. Now it is perfectly respectable for the financial giants to charge usurious rates of interest. There is absolutely no consumer protection left so the pleasure of screwing them a little is a lot more important than the money saved.

I'm sure you know how the credit card industry refers to customers who pay their bill in full every month but for those who don't, it is DEADBEATS.
