It's such wretched excess that it tells us something about the visceral reaction of the party faithful in the face of political failure. The threats of retaliation on a tragic scale are par for the course, I suppose. But still bizarre.

Being held responsible for your obvious and public failures is hardly the same as delving in to the secret lives of private people. Just goes to show how strange and convoluted the thinking has gotten- but that happens when people have to dig down and retrench- and the right is certainly in a defensive mode right now. It would be a little bit like the dictator who screamed Mc Carthyism because his people don't like him for what he's done, and want to "intimidate" him out of office. You can kind of understand why he'd want to scream that, but it doesn't make the screaming any more logical.
