The perceptions among the industry is hybrids have maintenance problems and cost more to fix sooner than normal gas vehicles.

ROBtv had interesting commentary on Friday. A North American big three car on average goes three years without needing some kind of major maintenance,...a Japanese car goes eight years. The hybrids and electric cars are more like the big three's products. If batteries were only cheaper.

Extended warranties (parts and labor) could remedy the situation,...but are the margins there yet. Perhaps demand has to build to get big assembly lines retooled to the hybrids. $6.00 per gallon gas for a couple of years would help :-)
