Rock, you are being naive. Without government subsidies new technologies would not be able to compete in the established market place. Is there room for improvement? Yes, probably, but I really don't want to be paying $10 for a gallon of gasoline...do you? Inexpensive energy is good for the economy and consumers. Apparently you weren't around during the mid 70's when the Arab oil embargo brought the US and global economy to its knees, and the cost of fuel nearly tripled. The economy went into a severe recession followed by 18% interest rates.
