Exactly! Your Sopranos analogy was spot on too.

FWIW, I was late to catch on to the Sopranos. It was like season 3 before I watched my 1st episode. It seemed to me that you needed to follow it from the start to really get it, so I didn't watch any more.

Then my cable company came out with On Demand. It allowed you to watch selected movies, series, TV shows, etc. from my cable outlet at your leisure. One of the neat things HBO did was to show a lot of their series starting from episode #1. It's a fantastic way to sample stuff you might not consider when you have to watch it on their schedule. It's great for a series you didn't watch when it premiered, etc. & you want to get caught up on what you missed.

I began to watch Sopranos to see if it really was everything I heard it was. For reasons I still can't fully explain, I got sucked in even though I found several things that normally would cause me to give up on a show like Sopranos. Most of the characters give you more reasons to loathe them than like, or even care about them. Almost every family is extremely dysfunctional, including each of the crime families. Even Tony's psychologist is screwed up. etc., etc., etc.

Worse still is their penchant for forcing leftist, BDS infected crap out there as if it reflected reality. And I mean there are times when they literally force it into a show so awkwardly that the actors seemed visibly uncomfortable. IMO, they did it just to get their left wing memes out there just like so many other Hollywierd movies & TV shows. Sadly, this season now has at least one such incident each week. Pathetic!

Still, I don't know why I am so deeply involved I make time to watch each new episode once it's available on On Demand. I guess it's because I need to see how they wrap things up in their last season. But what kept me watching 2 years ago? I wish I knew.
