When the P4 launched the pricing for the two fastest speeds were...$819 and $644 each for the 1.5 and 1.4 GHz parts, respectively.

Prices that high are the exception rather than the norm. On the other end of the scale the 2.2GHz Northwood launched at $562.

The lower manufacturing cost will also let Intel continue to wage a price war against AMD. The 2.2GHz Northwood will come out at $562, the typical entry point for Pentium 4s.

In a few quarters after Conroe launch, won't AMD have launched K8L on 65nm pretty much mooting the argument of a more drastic effect on AMD than Intel. AMD is used to an ASP of less than $100, Intel not so much...

K8L will hopefully level the playing field again or better yet help AMD retain the performance crown. But the K8L ramp won't be instantaneous either. It will probably take a couple quarters for K8L volumes to get high enough to effectively combat the NGA lineup.
