I have wondered about Falun Gong for awhile - are they China's answer to Scientology ?

You know, a stupid weird cult that wants to have babies born in a "cone of silence" and thinks space aliens threw people into volcanos 10,000 years ago.....

Or is there some political agenda ?

TJ, that's a form of arrogance which can be extremely expensive: <I think Hu believes George is a moron, as did Putin, and they are playing George for a fool that he may be.> Believing the opposition is moronic can lead one to make blunders. Misunderestimating enemies is hazardous to health. Arrogance is something to watch for in oneself. Detecting oneself as much superior to others should be a warning to watch for the presence of one of the seven deadly sins, pride, which comes before a fall.

Since Russia and China are megalomaniac cultures where absolute power is held at the centre like a black hole which sucks all into its maw, they are likely to make such mistakes.

Ronald Raygun was held to be such a simpleton too. But I noticed that the day he was inaugurated, the hostages in the USA embassy in Iran were released. A simpleton with his finger on a noocular button is a bit more risky than somebody interested in how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Tigers are definitely not especially intelligent and not given to blandishments about the finer points of CDMA, cyberspace, and such arcane matters of the mind. Noocular-armed tigers should not really be treated with contempt and played for fools.

I think it would suit China and Russia to have the boy-king whoop it up in Iran. As Zbigniew Brzezinski said about getting USSR into Afghanistan, "Give them their own Vietnam". With a name like that, no wonder he was grumpy - the kids at school must have teased him something awful.

While the USA is distracted in Iran and Iraq and Afghanistan and Egypt and on a Crusade against Islamic Jihad, they aren't paying so much attention to China and Russia.

PS: Forrest Gump was a moron too, but did quite well anyway. His military mate, who was sharp, did not. True, it was only a feel-good movie, which is a bit different from relentless, merciless, red in tooth and claw nature. One needs to be even more careful of believing movies than misunderestimating opponents. Playing possum and acting dumb are old tricks - traps for the young players.
