I am very much in sync with you now, Paul. I have yet to find an organization which didn't promote a certain percentage of jerks and raving lunatics into senior positions because they thought they were "effective" - maybe yes, maybe no, but whatever they accomplished came at the expense of the loyalty and morale of those around them. No way to run a railroad. My one experience with partners taught me all I need to know about that sideshow too. As they say, the best revenge is living well. I have done my best to live up to that credo since that venture blew up.
