This conversation as to whether the academy has become more or less politicized is fascinating and important. But almost impossible to answer. There is no question that the politics have changed during my lifetime but the degree to which that politics appears in classroom attempts to convert students to this or that ideology is not likely to have changed. Hard to say in any serious sense.

I can recall, as an undergraduate in the 50s, a bit of that but in general it was low key, countered by others, and considered by almost all of us as simply a part of the educational process. If the faculty member genuinely cared, you listened to the argument.
