Google gives you answers for "free", Hollywood will offer the same: I agree - FREE is the future for many things. Did you ever watch a bugs bunny show - the looney tunes. There were a lot of old songs being sung by the characters - jeanie with the light brown hair - the camptown races by foghorn leghorn - you know why? Those songs had entered the public domain and the creators of looney tunes didn't want to PAY to use more modern songs. I can go to AOL and download many episodes of babylon 5 for FREE. See modern content providers are in a real chokehold - as time goes on the public domain for entertainment gets bigger and bigger - I still haven't watched all the episodes of SNL with joe piscopo - and they are much better than the SNL I watched the other night with fall out boy and star wars girl this past saturday. That was the first time I watched a new SNL in years, will probably be the last time for years too - natalie portman was a flop.Everything. Scarcity of resources can only be resolved through allocation. There are more movies I want to watch than I will have the lifetimes to watch them - this problem only grows more and more as time goes on. You see scarcity - I see overabundance. More songs I want to hear, more books I want to read, more places I want to travel - in ancient times there were 7 wonders - today there are millions of things I want to see - it is growing everyday. Les stroud talks about going to live off the grid on his farm - if I had a net connection, energy and lifelong food and water there is very little else I would need to live in the city for. Water, oil, these things still benefit from capitalism - but many other things do not and the CORPORATIONS aren't figuring this out - as you said - it is a good system for SCARCITY - not abundance. The most efficient form of allocating scare resources is capitalism. I like a network where things are well dispersed and decentralized and much redundancy - capitalism can help - but the things people want - perhaps the resources are growing so fast that particular model is defunct. Bollywood put out 4K movies a year - Hollywood a little less, there are only 365 days in my year - I cant watch all the NEW films coming out - much less all the free old ones in public domain I still want to see. There are so many journals I want to read - no time. My daily needs are few, but every morsel of food I put in my mouth is something someone else somewhere cannot eat. True - people starved in the depression while food rotted in the storage bins - the amount of food was there - it was not distributed properly - the mechanics broke down somewhere. Like capitalism in pirate china - HAHA!What do citizens of the Federation lack? Spock lacked feelings and emotion sometimes. The borg were just coming in to make everyones lives better - they lacked diversity though. Q said the federation lacked a lot of things - Q lacked adventure - he was bored. Barclay just wanted to live in the holodeck all day - why leave? Must be something, I remember Deep Space 9 still had many traders setting prices based on supply and demand.... Yah - they kept running into people that weren't gods - and so they kept wanting the luxury and fun of the higher civilizations. If Quark had all the gold pressed latinum in the universe - would he be happy without his friend ODO? I think people will always want to feel safe, protected, so perhaps capitalism is good for security - yet we give those guys unlimited budgets and no bid contracts - thats crazy eh? I see lots of ladies buying BIG SUV's so they feel safe in traffic and then cuss out thier husbands for watching Nascar - a sport that wastes lots of gas.
