Great post! There are hundreds of universities/corporations that have inefficient "supercomputers" using ethernet connections. Smells like an opportunity to me, as do the storage applications.

BTW, thanks for the heads up, I'll have to visit a ToysRUs & check out the

re: The next level up is what Pathscale is selling, which is a a lower latency cluster, where there are some infiniband cards plugged in HTX slot.

It looks like Pathscales HTX-Infiniband card solution will find some new competition caused by HT 3.0 AC long distance communication. I think they might coexist after HT 3.0 based systems are released as from what I remember Infiniband has different characteristics, e.g. for wire length.
