Loaning countries money on conditions they will set up policies.

From bono to bush to kofi to the IMF meetings this past week - the winds of change are sweeping through.

Those policies were the eventual destruction of every country that took them.

That is true - and many are saying we need to forgive these loans and they are and things are changing. We have to stop just giving these people fish with interest and teach them to fish for themselves.

I have no doubt that Citycorp etc would love to see China collapse so they could come in on very favorable terms.

I am sure many bankers are itching to make some fees - need another jet airplane - but many other gubbment types are sidestepping these clowns. Think about it Mish - the billions of people that are going to be connected in a few short years with internet connectivity to share ideas and information back and forth in ways people couldn't even dream of a few decades back. Some poor kid in africa will be able to talk to you here on SI and read your blogs - even if it isn't his native language. How do you measure this in official GDP statistics? Lots of changes are coming in the next few decades in so many areas.

US congressmen are perhaps clueless pawns in the game perhaps adhering to their master's grand plans and do what they are told for campaign contributions.

Even Mccain said that abu ghraib could have been kept secret before the internet age - but the internet has changed things - much harder to keep your secrets than it was before.

Somehow I feel they (the congressmen) backed down because they were TOLD to back down (as if the current plan is being aborted).

I wonder if Schumer got promised a nice condo in shanghai and some other benefits by his eastern counterparts - everyone has a price no? The polls will show how weary the american voter is and Schumer and others will have to make a choice - the payoff - or the benefits of office - chromatic thought ultimately they would prefer the benefits of office and cater to the voters and screw thier banker friends - but I am not so sure - lee raymond and sandy weil took thier payoffs and have bailed leaving the fun for other bag holders no? This next election is going to be very interesting maybe.

If this sounds like a bunch of stupid conspiracy theories then so be it but just like the S&L crisis there will probably be more crisis to come

I am certain of it - you have convinced me we have a lot of changes coming in the future - many more banks can blow up from here - but just like the S&L crisis - the same old people will still be running the ship - no matter how many times it implodes and gets rebuilt.

(Fannie Mae) perhaps where the big banks will swoop up the daed for pennies on the dollar.

Yah they got my grandpas farm for cheap.

If China is too smart to play along well they (Congress) had to cancel their bluff (perhaps because they were TOLD to). Otherwise how can you explain the change in tune? China sure as hell did not give in.

Some people think bush and jintao dont like each other - well if I was a king and you were a king and both our citizens didnt like us - I would much rather mine and your poor duke it out while you and I sit on the golf course and have some more blue drinks with our rich citizens.

I dont think the current regime will revalue - they can't - it would be political suicide - but the regime over here is going to find out november perhaps that some politicos have to go - someone has to get the blame and quell all the unrest growing everywhere. If they can't force out the communist regime then perhaps it is in the interest of the bankers to get someone in office that can.
