To: Bill who wrote (4724 ) 4/27/2006 6:53:22 PM From: MulhollandDrive Read Replies (4) | Respond to of 14758 great read by coulter, however, i'm dispirited to see the republicans pandering to voters by positioning themselves against 'big oil' it's funny, i just got back from a trip to atlanta, and when riding in my cab to the airport, i was listening to talk show and the topic was 'boycott exxon-mobil to start a 'price-war', will it work?' the economist she was interviewing basically answered no and no... although he didn't use the word 'fungible' <g> he pointed out to the host that even if people boycotted a particular supplier, the other suppliers would suddenly have increased demand, and would therefore increase their prices, which would then drive people to the exxon-mobil station (with the lower prices) who then could raise theirs! <vvbg> the bottom line was.... we have met the 'enemy' and the enemy is us... meaning anyone driving a gas guzzler, one person at a time, has no business complaining about the high cost of fuel... nobody held a gun to anyone's head and told them to buy an SUV when gas was two buck a gallon....point being, fuel conservation is a good idea (assuming you cannot afford high prices) no matter WHAT the price of gasoline... if you have purchased a gas guzzler when the price of fuel was 'cheap' and now are howling because demand has driven prices up, you have no one to blame but yourself! dump the SUV and buy a prius, for cryin' out loud btw... even the cab driver was smirking and laughing at the concept of 'big oil' getting excessive profits (fully understanding the supply/demand dynamic).....and the futility of 'boycotting' a particular producer... we both agreed that if anyone should be 'boycotted' it should be cit-go....let's all work together to put chavez in a world of hurt....and patronize the good american based oil companies that deserve their 'obscene' profits! :)
