IMO, the govt is blowing smoke up our asses when they try to direct our anger at the oil companies and the Arabs. THE U.S. GOVT is the big winner here! The govt is making a killing with the taxes on the inflated prices due to the price of oil and gasoline. Remember, it's not just gas - EVERYTHING has gone up because of the increased shipping costs! In my business I have to pay sales tax on the "fuel adjustment charge" on building materials. I realize it doesn't stop there. All metal prices have gone through the roof because we are selling all our scrap metal to China, and everything we use has to be made from scratch. The price of all plastic and pvc products have skyrocketed because of the price of oil. Every item you see on the shelf at the store has a shipping charge attached to it. Yesterday, the fed announced that it will probably increase interest rates because they are worried about inflation. MY BIG OL' BUTT!!!!! I know it costs a lot of money to fight a war, and the money has to come from somewhere, but the way they're going about raising it tells me that we're not going to see any relief when the fighting's done. Sonny Perdue (Rep,Ga) announced last year that due to the increase cost of gasoline, the state had already surpassed it's sales tax projections for the year and rescinded the state tax on gasoline for 6 weeks with the orders that the price reduction be passed on to consumers. The federal govt won't do that because they created these higher prices with the sole intention of collecting the additional taxes!

We built 16 "starter" homes 5 years ago (1,240 sq. ft., 2 car garage) and sold them for $89,000. The 16 we built this year are selling for $139,000 with less profit attached. Labor prices are unchanged.
