My daughter went to the sports medicine ortho yesterday. She went there because of a shoulder injury and found out she's got MDI and so do I (something I didn't know I had until yesterday but explains a lot). MDI is multidirectional instability. She can hyperextend her shoulders which allows her to power serve a volleyball from the back wall of the court to the other end of the court with what looks like no effort on her part at all. She found out yesterday that when she does this, her shoulder becomes more and more inflamed and damages it each time. She has a high tolerance for pain and doesn't like to take time off.

She was told that because she has MDI, she'll need to do exercises that will strengthen the muscles around her joints in order to give them the support they need since her ligements are so loose. The doc told her that if she doesn't do something to help stabilize the joints, via exercises, that by the time she's 18 she'll be having joint problems that most 50 year old have.
