They believe there should be exceptions for them because of their strength in numbers and really, the US can’t do much about the ones already here. Our only option to stem the tide is to secure the border.

Some of our ancestors would have come here too even if there were laws. The facts is that back at the turn of the century there were no restrictions and the pull here was from southern and eastern europe. There were jobs and economic opportunity here then and guess what it's the same today. Part of the problem is the racist attitudes that still exist to low wage mexicans. That used to apply to the low wage jews, irish and italians who came at other times. If we border australia, the laws would somehow get changed.
And i am not going nuts on folks with racist attitudes toward the dregs that do the scut work. We should recognize the nature of our prejudice and move on.
