Bush was approached by Geo. Schultz the CEO of Bectel and former Sec. Of State about running for governor. Schultz told him "they" would finance his run if he quit drinking and straightened up. So not only did he quit drinking but he started getting religion, but only AFTER he had decided to run for office. His pal Rove has always been an expert at exploiting rightwing religious wackos so that was also part of the plan, for GW Bush the alcoholic rich kid preppy playboy to become a born again righteous heartland father figure. Balderdash.
