That's something Bob installed a few days ago to help us measure traffic. It's not supposed to have a noticeable affect; you are the first person to mention it.

We're going to moving some servers around over the next couple of weekends so I suspect it will be there until then at the very least. I'll mention your post to Bob when he gets back.

I'm on dialup at home and not noticing it.

However, as Dave said, it's something I've installed for measuring our metrics. Unique visitors, pageviews, etc. Has nothing to do with advertising. Directly.

Google bought Urchin, which is the software I wanted to use. We're using a demo version of it now, but it'll expire soon and there's apparently no way to upgrade it. Urchin returns all the same data based on our log files.

It looks like Google is incorporating it into their analytics, but it doesn't have the ability to process history. Only what is gathered from their Analytics tag. Which compiles aggregate data for us so we can see and report (as provided by a 3rd party) all kinds of metrics.

This kind of data, especially pageviews and unique monthly visitors, is becoming more important in the rapidly evolving ad environment.
