UK Average Household Disposable Wealth Tops GBP40,000

(keeping my scottish brethern beat down - where is william wallace?)

LONDON (Dow Jones)--The U.K.'s average household disposable wealth has topped GBP40,000 for the first time, according to a study based on March 2006 numbers released Monday.

The report, by data marketing firm KDB, said the sum had grown 7% year-on-year, "giving economic confidence to our view of increases in consumer spending and debt in early 2006."

"The North-South divide between the wealthiest region (London - GBP81,732) and the least wealthy region (Scotland GBP29,724) remains clearly polarized, but has narrowed," it said.

The report added that disposable wealth growth has accelerated in Scotland and the North, but slowed in London.
