In Silicon Valley, the protests seemed to be pretty limited.

There were about 10 or so people waiting in the casual labor pickup areas along El Camino. Usually about 20 during the week, and as many as 35 on week ends.

A few sandwich shops were closed, a hip Spanish resturant and a fish place. Almost every chain resturant was open except for Dennys.

But the Tex-Mex BBQ place was open, Scott's seafood in Palo Alto, ToGOs sandwiches, etc.

Monday is not a heavy resturant day - Thursday would have been a better choice, but picking a socialist holiday got things stuck on a very slack day.

The Thai and Mediterranian resturants were doing a pretty good buisness, near full, but not mobbed.

People in LA reported easier commutes, and many commented they would be happy if this occured every day.

There are reports that farm activity in the Salinas Valley was shutdown. I expect they will be back tommorrow.

For much of the country, I think some immigrants will find that shutting down LANDSCAPING doesn't affect critical infrastructure....

I expect this will backfire for the most part - the illegal immigrants contribution is not as valuble as the tax costs and security problems.

I have seen news items saying that many non-Hispanic LEGAL immigrants are not happy about these demonstrations - why can't the these imigrants go through the same process that they did ?

That's a lot of voters.

*******

There are some estimates that illegals cost the state of California about 9 Billion a year. That's about 10% of California's 93 Billion budget, and a big part of the 12 Billion budget defict.
