Americans are often surprised how hard it is to immigrate legally when I tell them of all the hassles legal immigrants go through, time, money, bureaucracy, having to leave the country and come back, getting stuck back overseas... so it's not surprising people want to come illegally. As usual the US is very hypocritical/paradoxical putting lots of barriers in the way of legal immigration and then accepting millions via the backdoor.
