Crimson > Another take on the Israel Lobby -- It's Not Either / Or -- The Israel Lobby By NORMAN G. FINKELSTEIN

While I have the highest regard for Norman Finkelstein and agree with everything he says, I feel he has overlooked two important points.

(a) The similarity between the two policy documents the neocons wrote (1) for Netanyahu: A Clean Break - Securing the Realm and (2) for the US: the PNAC. For this reason, it's clearly impossible to know whether their interest was primarily US or Israeli but since they are, in the majority, high-profile Zionists it is not unreasonable to presume their prime concern is with Israel.

(b) The influence of the American Christian Zionists (Evangelists) on US foreign policy, particularly George Bush himself who is a well-known and committed Evangelist. Their interest is directly concerned with Israel and not the US and, in fact, they would like to see the occupation of as much Palestinian land as possible by the Jews. That this is in violation of international law is of no concern to them because they believe the Bible supersedes any man-made law or laws.
