Bush rushed into Iraq so recklessly there was literally no post-invasion plan in place at all, the UN inspectors hadn't even finished their job, and they were doing a very good job, plus there was no public debate allowed in the US. Anyone who questioned the rush to war was branded a "traitor".

Also, the CIA experts now state that months before Bush invaded, he had personally already gotten new reliable intel that Saddam had few if any WMD, no nuclear program, no bioweapons and maybe just a little mustard gas. Plus no longrange missiles or delivery systems.
