However, in the end the US must act in what is in our own best interests. Any reality based review of history shows that the US generally gets it right when dealing with rouge nations & Al Qaeda types. Sadly, history shows there aren't too many other world powers that can have the same thing said about them. As far as Russia & China, I disagree. They are too corrupt to allow them to handle Iran properly. The massive corruption both countries engaged in prior to Saddam's removal made it all too clear they cannot be trusted. That is but one clear example among many that makes me leary of both countries. I'm not happy that the US has to be the world's police force, but that's the reality we have to live with. The UN is absolutely worthless. It should be abolished & a new UN formed. Only countries with fully functioning democracies with a free press, free speech, civil rights & no human rights problems should be allowed to join. A carrot & stick approach (in a big way) should be used to cajole other countries to join & adhere to the principals that the original UN was created under. Until then, the US needs to create coalitions or act alone to do what is best for our own self interests. RE: Tom Barnett - Due to personal reasons that have limited my time online, I haven't been to Lindy's thread in a few months. I haven't been reading Tom Barnett independently. If Tom has a POV different from mine on this, fine. If he thinks China & Russia should be big players in world events sans any US involvement, then I couldn't disagree more with him.
