One of the reasons gold is probably rising is because the U.S. Dollar is losing value. Investors are selling dollars and buying gold for the safety. There is some talk that the U.S. Dollar is set to take a more sustained fall. That is not going to make American consumers happy at all when everything they buy from overseas is more expensive. Already, you only get about 1/2 a British Pound for 1 U.S. Dollar.
