Yes, must have been the 2001 Russian River Merlot. Surely wish I could remember where I got it at the price I paid. I think Spec's in Houston.

The winery's tasting notes are spot on:

This wine rises several steps above the ordinary. The aromas and flavors of blackberry, plum and smokey oak meld into a remarkably smooth Merlot. Medium tannins are complex and the wine finished generously.

Checked Spec's online, no dice, no Taft Street Merlot.......damn.

Here's a link to Spec's website for any Texans who might be lurking, though if they're in Houston they are well aware of Spec's prices, which are very, very good, at least compared to Louisiana's.
