>Z, so do you still think Bill Gates doesn't deserve to be the richest man on Earth, if what JF says is true? After all, Gates was smart enough to be in the right place at the right time, repeatedly, and knew how to take advantage of it.

"Deserve?" In a system that's like 90% arbitrary, nobody deserves to make hundredes of thousands of times what others do, but that's the way the system works. Ergo, the system is broken.

This book excellently describes how Microsoft was built.

It might change your opinion of Gates, who was much more of a cutthroat backstabbing pirate than any kind of engineering genius. It's also covers Apple's early days and more. Quite an entertaining read too.

I think Gates is doing great things with the money NOW - but I credit his wife for that.

I think most of us will agree that Bill Gates deserves to be the richest man in the world due to what he's achieved. But I don't think his kid "deserves" to be in that position when Bill dies, and I certainly don't think his grandkids "deserve" much at all ($10 million seems like plenty per grandkid). Unearned wealth is counter to the idea of prosperity based on individual merit.

Gates is smart enough to know that one man doesn't deserve as much money as he has. That's why he is giving so much of it away. This is a higher level of thinking that was promoted by Jesus. You should feel very comfortable with it.
