US Tsy: Excess Govt Cash Category Reached Record High Tue

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The U.S. government's excess cash - minus the Federal Reserve's account - reached a record high of $93.8 billion Tuesday, as individual income tax receipts arrived in the spring tax season, Treasury said Wednesday.

Tuesday's record level for Treasury's excess operating cash, excluding what is invested with the Fed, will quickly dissipate as the federal government makes routine payments this week for programs such as Social Security, according to a Treasury official who asked not to be identified.

"Receipts are strong, and as a result our cash balances are high," the official said.
