Oklahoma may join rest of US in allowing tattoos
WISTV.COM ^ | 05/03/2006

(Oklahoma City, Oklahoma-AP) May 3, 2006 - The Oklahoma Legislature gave final approval to a bill Wednesday to legalize the tattoo industry in Oklahoma, the only state that prohibits the trade.

The bill now goes to Governor Brad Henry for consideration. The Senate voted 29-15 for the measure, which the House approved last month.

South Carolina once joined Oklahoma as the only states to ban tattoos, but the Palmetto State's ban was lifted in 2004, and the first legal tattoo in the state was inked in Myrtle Beach in March.

Oklahoma banned tattoos in 1963, but some tattoo artists have operated businesses under slack enforcement and no health regulations.
