At the White House, Snow will participate in writing the lies and fabrications that are the foundation of the Bush Administration's propaganda effort. While at FOX News, Tony only read and endorsed them. Am I the only liberal in America who actually listens to FOX News? The White House press corps certainly does not. At FOX, Tony was just as devoted to the Roger Ailles-Karl Rove-Rush Limbaugh propaganda line as everyone else on the payroll. Though Rush Limbaugh is not in the White House, his take on things and his attack methods are key to the success of the process. The only difference between Tony Snow and his predecessor, the hapless Scott McClellan, will be stage presence and cosmetics. Tony may get to edit what he says but the messages will still contain their basic distortions of the truth. I try to listen to FOX radio every few weeks when I drive three hours through the California desert to my retail business near the U.S.-Mexican border. Listening to Sean Hannity and the others is a sacrifice I make for my readers. It is an excruciating experience. Almost every comment smears some non-conservative politician or cause. Every diatribe contains a distortion of the record or intent of the subject. Each half hour contains either a sneer at John Kerry or Hillary Clinton. It is almost amusing, the way they reach for every opportunity to insert those two names. FOX has nothing to do with the truth and it often has nothing to do with current events. But it has everything to do with the Rove-Ailles-Limbaugh propaganda formula. The main objective is to keep their core supporters angry and exercised about those damned liberals who are going to ship George W. Bush back to Texas. Now, I know that those few neo-conservatives who read this column will write me to call me a liar, so I want to make the following offer: Go to the FOX News website and download a transcript of any Sean Hannity, Tony Snow or Neil Cavuto show and forward it to me.(I am not going to spend my own money paying FOX for the transcript any more than you would pay Air America Radio for an Al Franken transcript. I hope you understand.) When I get your e-mail I will read what you send and point out the lies, fabrications and distortions. I will then put them up on my website. If I find none I will apologize before all my readers. If I find one lie, fabrication or distortion, you have to stop listening to FOX and start listening to Al Franken. If I am right, I will then secure a transcript of a Tony Snow press briefing and do the same thing. It should make interesting reading. I await the challenge. *ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Gerald Plessner is a Southern California businessman who writes regularly on issues of politics and culture.
