Most of California was once a desert no man's waste land. With the onset of the gold rush years and some clever irrigation and development innovations, it became a garden paradise for the wealthy of North America. Of couse it all came too easy for the folk and with easy luxury comes spoiled children. Those kids grew up too needy to raise their own kids responsibly and now as adults those kids are rapidly proving that California can be returned to the waste it once enjoyed. California may be the first ultra wealthy region to reach third world poverty status in this century.
