"He lauds the unceasing pressure that President Kennedy put on subordinates with the solution that avoided nuclear war in the Cuban missile crisis. He credits President Reagan with implementing "real changes" in his administration after the Iran-Contra crisis enveloped ideologues in his administration."

I lived thru both and he is right about both. Some of you guys are too young to remember the Cuban Missile crisis but there was no red phone then and the world lucked out as war would have occurred if the leaders had followed their military advisors. Those who talk of MAD and deterrence need to know that it only works when there are lines of communication opened and there werent any back in 1962 and we just flat out lucked out because the leaders had the sense to not listen to their more militant advisors. This is where you dudes accurately nail bush. He has none of those instinct that JFK had nor does he choose to ever challenge what his more militant advisors bring him. Thats why he failed imo, more than any other reason.
