** OT ** Spanish wines? Two nights ago, we had a simply su-poib 2001 called Finca VillaCreces Ribiera Del Duero ($57) and a simpler but quite drinkable Marques de Riscal ($32) in a funky, wire-coated bottle.

The whole family loves a little South African number called Fusion V (literally 5 wines blended) ($42). Very smooth and tasty.

I tend to avoid French wines as I feel they are generally overpriced and I don't know a whole lot about them to be able to get the good values. Same with Oz and most American, but I've had a few pleasant surprises lately. I find I like the Spanish, Chilean, and Argentinian best, apart from my new Italian in-laws and neighbours, whose wine isn't for sale.

Let me tell you, as "padre del sposo", I have been on some Cantina tours that would make you drool with envy. Cannonaus, spumantis, fragoline, everybody grows slightly different grapes in slightly different soils and elevations. And no Euros ever change hands.

"Un po pui de vino por favor, signore"
