Contrariwise, Europe is attempting to build a post- or meta-cultural framework that tops and somehow overrules the diverse cultures of her constituent countries... Europe's multicultural endgame is not to have all Europeans fluent in English, Christian, and hooked on soccer.

Sorry Gustave, but I don't think Europeans know what multiculturalism is. When different cultures do rear their ugly heads, Europeans decide to split up.......see Macedonia, the former Yugoslavia, Moldavo and the former Czechoslovakia. And don't forget all the little blood feuds going on between the Basque and Spain; the Romas and central Europe and the northern Irish. For hundreds of years, we have been accepting many, many cultures into this country..........in some public schools over a hundred languages are spoken. We have Chinatowns, Japantowns, Little Italys; Germantowns, Japantowns, Greektowns, Korean towns, Little Indias.......the list goes on and on. There are so many cultural festivals in the US, I bet you could go to one every day of the year.

If we have a monoculture it is much like the monoculture in each European country. But what's different is that underneath we have a veritable smorgasboard of culture. Its amazing we don't kill each other over our differences.
