If Americans want a better standard of living than the rest of the planet, they've gotta earn it.

What makes you think they haven't [earned it]........or did you think Disney World and all the rest were already built and Americans simply had to take advantage of this land's bounty?

We're talking about the labor class in the US that is seeing their hourly wage decline due to the entrance of Chinese and Indians in the global market. If the US worker that assembles cars wants a better salary than a Chinese worker that assembles cars he's gotta do something to earn the better salary - that's my point.

Hmmmm........why should they have to do extra? Because they made the unfortunate mistake of being born in the US where the cost of living is much higher or because they chose to work for GM or Ford? Funny but Toyota makes it work with US wages. How can they and not GM and Ford? I might suggest to you that the mgmt. people in GM and Ford, the same people who brought you Bush, might be part of the problem but then you would make it personal and accuse me of being an anti America whiner.

I think you may have lived too long outside the US to have come to such a conclusion.

My point has nothing to do with where I live.

On the contrary, I think your POV has everything to do with your current location and your long absense from this country.
