al Qaeda in Iraq

Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch on Thursday showed excerpts of the full video, found in a raid in Yusufiya south of Baghdad, that depict al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, and his aides appearing all-thumbs with firearms.

Lynch seems to delight in pointing out the incompetance of his terrorist adversary. Yet al-Zarqawi has evaded capture on several occasions, is responsible for the deaths of countless civilians and Iraqi military, and appears no closer to being caught than the day he entered Iraq to challenge the Americans.

Long ago Caesar recognized that to be hailed as a great general one must conquer worthy adversaries, and so his writings on the subject show respect for the Gauls. Lynch, on the other hand, doesn't seem to realize that if a totally incompetant terrorist can hold 130,000 US troops in Iraq at bay, then what does that make him ? Yes, he looks like the monkey's uncle.
