The key to the demotion of Jack Straw from foreign secretary is Iran.
commentisfree.guardian.co.uk

Straw for more than a year, in his favourite outlet the BBC Today programme or at various press conferences, said repeatedly a military strike on Iran was inconceivable.

Politicians always try to avoid boxing themselves in, but Straw did on this issue: if a military strike had become a serious option, he would have been forced to resign.

"Many EU nations welcome folks from abroad to enter their labor pools."

Like France!? Their "guest workers" recreate by burning cars. Great solution.

The solution is to bring folks in legally, just like other free market and free nations do around the globe. Many EU nations welcome folks from abroad to enter their labor pools. But folks coming in have to meet some standards. They must find or have a job to stay. They must learn and demonstrate their ability to speak the language and they must pass basic tests of local laws, customs, etc. to stay.

The US has a similar policy. In addition, the immigrant has to show proof that his/her talents are so unique that it will not prevent an American from being employed. We also have a lottery to restrict the numbers of people who can come. Most of the current policy was put into place in 1996. It was in reaction to the increasing numbers of illegals coming into the country. Unfortunately, its forced more and more immigrants to enter illegally into the country because they have few if any skills in which to compete.
