The problem with Exxon Mobil's numbers is that they were the beneficiary of circumstances which hamstrung ordinary citizens. Also, if you look at the details, there was some interesting accounting there. Gross profit jumped from $22 billion in the June quarter to $56 billion in the September quarter and $42 billion in the December quarter.
