What we are dealing with is differing worldviews -- along the lines of Copernicus and the Catholic Church. One the one hand, you have the reigning worldview that sees the Internet as a private good and therefore best produced by the private market. The opposing view, mine and many others, is that the Internet is a public good best produced through collective action. To put it succinctly, the question is: Does society most benefit when the Internet is placed inside capitalism or when capitalism is placed inside the Internet. I believe the latter.
