(Same as with taxes, where the old saying is "don't tax you, don't tax me --- tax that fellow behind the tree!") With oil, I am convinced that eventually, when the price is high enough, ALL commercially recoverable oil on public lands will be developed... it is only a matter of time and price. Meanwhile, oil under public lands is 'safe in the bank', and will only become even more valuable in the future. "...I think people in general would clearly understand... you think not?" Depends on WHAT 'people', WHERE, and WHEN. :) Everyone is entitled to their opinions and, if petro development stands to harm your business interests, I would expect people to oppose it --- same as they would anything else that was expected to cost them money....
